Educator Diversity Development

CREC is leading the way in public education with theme-based programs that provide all students with college and career focused educational opportunities. With highly qualified teachers, cutting edge curricula, and state-of-the-art buildings, CREC magnet schools give students from diverse backgrounds a chance to excel in ways that are designed to inspire and motivate.

Known for its forward-looking approach to education, CREC looks for individuals who are not afraid to generate divergent ideas, try new approaches, and lead by example. We want critical thinkers and doers – educators who will work as part of the CREC team for the betterment of the Greater Hartford community

Supporting, recruiting, and retaining a diverse teaching staff is a top priority for CREC magnet schools. Researcher Carol Dweck found that a student’s sense of belonging can predict academic success, and that students who feel a strong sense of school connectedness are less likely to engage in risky adolescent behavior (Dweck, Walton, & Cohen 2014). CREC believes a workforce reflective of its student population is essential to maintaining a connected, culturally responsive teaching and learning environment.

In support of this mission, CREC and Central Connecticut State University are partnering to support the development of Black and Latino educators through a Minority Teacher Cohort. Black or Latino students enrolled in the Central’s Masters of Teaching program or in their senior year of Central’s undergraduate teacher preparation program are eligible to participate.

By participating in the CREC Minority Teacher Cohort, teacher candidates have access to:

-CREC mentors
-Field experience and student teaching in a CREC school
-Quarterly seminar series led by CREC leadership
-Additional professional learning opportunities
-Career search support and guidance

To express interest in the joining the cohort, or for more information about the program,  please email Doug McCrory or call (860) 509-3752. Please note, spots are limited and priority is given to candidates in shortage areas.
