Third graders at the CREC Academy of Aerospace and Engineering Elementary School are participating in Mentor Writer Week. Parents and staff family members have volunteered their time to talk with students about their careers and how writing plays a role in their everyday job.

On Monday, Jeff King and Rebecca Meyer will speak about their careers as writers. Mr. King worked as a sports editor for 10 years and has self-published two books; and Ms. Meyer is a technical writer and editor. They will collaborate to teach students how to flesh out their writing.

On Tuesday, Matt Caron, an anchor/reporter from 22 News in Springfield, MA, will show students how a news story is created from start to finish and will give students the opportunity to write their own stories after a mock news conference. He will play sample news stories he has created while on the job.

On Wednesday, Ken Ness, a retired FAA inspector, will speak to students about not only the writing aspect of the job, but the STEM components and the need for precision and accuracy when doing any job. Sasha Isenberg also will speak with students about her career as a project scientist for HRP Associates. Both Mr. Ness and Ms. Isenberg bring with them their expertise with not only writing, but with STEM and its real-life applications.
